Cancer Care Centers of South Texas KENS 5 News Story Wins Award

In January 2011, Cancer Care Centers of South Texas, Dr. Allyson Harroff and a patient were featured in a KENS 5 news story in San Antonio. The story relates to a clinical trial conducted at CCCST involving a drug, ipilimumab, for the treatment of malignant melanoma.  The drug went on to FDA approval, with CCCST playing a pivotal role in the investigation and approval of ipilimumab.  During the clinical trial, only three groups in Texas were able to administer the drug, with CCCST having two of the three sites, in Kerrville and in San Antonio.  The news story was picked up by the CBS national newsfeed, and then went on to win the American Cancer Society High Plains Media Award (for a six state area) for "Large Market Television News".  CCCST extends sincere gratitude to the patient and his family for the interview, and for participating in the clinical trial all with the hope of improving therapies for all patients with cancer.
